Hear the Story Gatherings

We offer full or half day in-person gatherings for individuals or organizations that are interested in learning more about our resources before committing to the full training. At our Hear the Story Gatherings participants are told parts of “The Lie that Caused Racism” story and reflect together in small groups. We also spend time discussing the reality of the challenges of engaging this work in participants' contexts.

We also provide 1-hour information sessions over Zoom for diocesan anti-racism commissions.

If you are interested in learning more about bringing a “Hear the Story” gathering to your congregation, region, or conference contact fill out the form linked below.

Tell the Story Training

We offer ongoing opportunities for online training where participating learners meet as a cohort over a series of seven sessions. Engaging this training as a cohort provides you the support you need to adapt the core story of "The Lie that Caused Racism" for your specific context. Participants learn from the Tell Me About The Dream Team and each other as we seek to bring this work to our communities.

This training will empower you to:

  • Find confidence to broach these conversations with a foundation of curiosity

  • Build commitment from your institution to engage in this work

  • Brainstorm how to best tailor our resources to share the stories with your community, including:

    • How many sessions and what format?

    • What is the best timing?

    • Which age groups?

    • What activities?

    • How to engage the entire community in celebrating this work?

  • Create a custom designed curriculum for presenting the story in your context.

  • Engage in wondering for yourself by engaging with the stories, the lies we are told, and the truth that we know through our faith.

  • Form relationships with the other faith educators in the cohort to support you as you do this work.

  • Practice telling the story.

  • Do independent historical research that connects your context to the story.

  • Receive feedback about wondering questions and story presentation.

  • Be as prepared as one can be to take a risky step towards doing the work of anti-racism and justice seeking in your context and to go forward boldly “with God’s help.”

Each cohort participant is encouraged to invite an auditor, a fellow truth teller in your local context, to join in the cohort work and co-imagine implementation in your community.

Tell the Story Training meets weekly via Zoom for 7, 2-hour sessions.

Training Cost: $375 per organization, includes participant and auditor*

Create the Story Cohort

We know that the lie of racism has presented itself differently across time and geography. From slavery to indigenous boarding schools, red-lining to internment camps, mass incarceration to white nationalism. Our story “The Lie that Caused Racism” tells the big picture truth. Through our Create the Story Cohort we invite you to tell a story about the way the lie that caused racism has appeared in your church or community.

As part of a Create the Story Cohort Participants will:

  • Tell one of the stories from "The Lie that Caused Racism"

  • Discern what story needs to be told about your local context

  • Write and tell your story, with feedback from cohort members

Each cohort participant is encouraged to invite an auditor, a fellow truth-teller in your local context, to join in the cohort work and co-write your story.

Create the Story Cohorts meet weekly via Zoom for 6, 2-hour sessions.

Training Cost: $375 per organization, includes participant and auditor*

*If the cost is prohibitive to your participation we are happy to support you in seeking financial support from your organization, diocese, council, or other potential scholarship institutions that would benefit from investing in your training.
